Imeldified or Not Imeldified

By: Langsa Tuguinay, 2013-62888

“I always say you can never be extravagant with beauty. Beauty is God made real. Beauty is life.” – Imelda Marcos

Every time I hear the name Imelda Marcos, the first things that come to my mind are pairs of shoes and sandals. If you are a Filipino, you get what I mean here because she is known to have hundreds of these babies. However, after seeing the movie, or more appropriately, the documentary about how she lived her life, I have mixed feelings towards her—I don’t know whether I would hate her or not.

While watching the documentary, what was playing on my mind were the words, “wow, Imelda Marcos is kinda conceited, huh?”; but then again, her being conceited is pretty reasonable. This is because if we look at it, she was not only a pretty lady back in the days, but she was also a sexy one! I also think that she is a strong woman; a woman who not only does not take orders but also an independent one. This is the reason why I find it hard to hate her because today, these are some of the characteristics that we need to see in woman. We need women like her in our society, someone who stands up with what she believes in and someone who has a good charisma.

In the end, I can not really say whether I like Imelda Marcos or not. Rather, I would put it in a way that after I have watched the film, my knowledge and impression on Imelda Marcos changed in a way; a way that I could not put whether it is more of a negative or positive change in my impression of her—maybe it is just a grey area.
