Gone Google

Androidify yourselves. As the first speaker, Ms. Gail Tan of Google Business Groups (GBG), started GDaysX with such enthusiasm, I thought of what technology has become through the years and about how it has constantly changed the society I belong to.  Truly enough, people have been much more interested in the endless innovations brought about by technology. Google, in particular, has marked the lives of the youth, entrepreneurs, teachers, and a big part of the population all over the world.

These innovations are yet to improve with the users’ help because as GBG claims, these are crowd accumulated. When Google was only starting its own fire, the people behind it focused first on the users and all else followed. It has built communities with the purpose of connecting people to create good things which more often than not are just so cool.

Learning how Google has earned its millions of users today made me realize the chances that lie with just a single click. As a user, I find it like a process of giving and taking. The only thing Google has provided users are the applications by which the users collaborate and come up with something rather remarkable. Because Google has not stopped tapping on people’s desires and dreams, more and more users trusted it to become a part of their success story whether as businessmen or just as ordinary students. It is amazing that as we can androidify ourselves and rely on technology, we can also personify our androids.

In the framework of Google, it is the users who keep it going and improving. It is the people who decide which track they are taking with the technology they have in hand. Personifying our androids suggests that with all the opportunities there are in technology, we always have a choice to use it for our own development in whichever field we take. We, users, put technology to life as we let ourselves be part of the technology itself.

Collaboration is the key. The next speaker was Herald Uy of GBG. He shows that Google has been a means of collaborating with other people through the years, be it a professional business meeting or a simple school group work. It had me thinking that yes, Google is not just a searching engine, but a way of building great work together with great people across the globe.

We also heard from Therence John Resabal, a Google Student Ambassador. I have learned about other applications and products Google provides. It came to me that these products’ credibility depends on the users and their consistent sharing through Google. Building great products depends on great people.

I have androidified myself. I have personified my android. I have gone Google, have you?

GdaysX Reaction Paper

“Nothing great is ever done alone.” Mr. Herald Uy of GBG, Google Business Groups, mentioned this statement during the event, GdaysX, which was held in Xavier School last November 23, 2013. His talk was about Google for Entrepreneurs; and he introduced it with the word, collaboration. I also believe that in order to get things done efficiently, collaboration is a must.
Google introduces applications where in people can work together anytime and anywhere. I think this is essential because it is unlikely that people travel long distances just to arrange a matter that can be solved in less than an hour. Google drive and Hangouts have helped even the largest and oldest companies to do their job well.
As a student, this is very helpful in creating projects and presentations that we often need to do for school. And as we become professionals, we will be involved with more people and more things to deal with so with these, we can accomplish so much in our precious time.

Before, Youtube was only a site where I can watch music videos and random funny clips. Now, I have learned that it can also be used for business. It helps in finding an audience so that I can engage, develop, and educate them since they are my potential buyers. As a business major, I have learned steps in which I can combine business and this famous online site.

Aside from Youtube, I can also mix blogging and business. In a business blog, I can have more pages, more chances to be shared, more leads and most importantly, more possible sales. It can also provide helpful information to my readers. Even though my work will begin five years from now, I can see that those methods will still be effective then. Everything is online; everyone is online.
I may have attended only four sessions in this event, namely, Google for Entrepreneurs by Mr. Herald Uy, Google Drive by Therence Resabal, Youtube for Your Business by Trixie Canivel, and Podcasting and Blogging by Kring Elenzano, but I am happy that the short time became a learning experience for me. The speakers were very knowledgeable in their own topics; and they presented their talk using videos and PowerPoint presentations. They gave a chance for the audience to ask questions at the end of their talk so that confusing things shall become clearer and that more information can be delivered.

GdayX Reaction Paper

“It is not the frequency that matters, it’s the consistency.”
- Fitz Villafuerte, Business and Finance Blogger

The Gdayx (Google DayX) Philippines, an event supported by Google, Smart and Xavier School was held on the 23rd of November 2013 at the Angelo King Multi-Purpose Center, Xavier School. This whole day event focused on informing and inspiring future or current business owners and student and entrepreneurs on the latest business technologies and
I was able to attend three sessions, namely (1) Google Places and Mapping for Business; (2) Blogging for business; and (3) Introduction to Google Analytics, in the afternoon. The first talk was given by Mr. JR Padilla from Google Developer Group (GDG) Dagupan, the second was by Mr. Fitz Villafuarte, a business and finance blogger and the third talk was given by Mr. Maro Rimorin, a Blogger and Digital Strategist.
The first session, the talk about Google places and Mapping for business, was helpful to me personally. Not only was the talk informative; it was also interesting most especially for people who usually rely on Google maps for directions. It gives people a new and cooler way to look at Google maps at the same time gives the business oriented people a chance of putting their place or organization “on the map”.
The second session, Blogging for business, is a little more interesting than the previous one. Maybe it was because of the way it was presented or maybe just because of personal biases since I read blogs of other people that interests me. This session is really helpful not only for people who maintain blogs but also for the people who find time everyday reading blogs.

Overall, attending the Gdayx Philippines opened me to a different array of ideas in blogging, finance and business. It may have given me an idea or two of what I could do in the future.

Reaction to GdaysX

Hundreds of words come to mind as I try to describe the talks I heard from the speakers of Google’s GdaysX event. But, I believe one word sums it all up --- HIP.

The event last November 23, held at Xavier School, San Juan, was all about technology and how it can be used for businesses. Entrepreneurs, teachers and students were among those gathered to participate in the activity. At first, I believed that I would not gain anything from the said event. However, after hearing all the speakers share the importance and use of technology, especially the Google Apps, in making transactions and businesses easier, my perspective changed.
As I said earlier, the talks can be summed-up into one word and that is HIP. But, this three-letter-word is further divided into three more meanings, and these are as follows:

H-ighly informative. Even if I was not able to hear all the different lectures in the activity, the first three sessions were enough to convince me how little I know about the value technology has in the lives of nearly all the people in the world.  Sir Henry Uy’s discussion about the various communication tools that can be used for businesses is very enlightening especially to people like me who are very oblivious about the ever-developing modes of communication. These tools, not just for entrepreneurs but for others as well, can make daily transactions easier and faster. Meetings can be done virtually; documents of any kind are made and edited efficiently; dissemination of data and information is done faster and safer. All these and many more are the things I learned from the talks.

I-nspiring. No words can explain more perfectly what Ms. Gail Tan of Google Philippines shared in her talk than this. The business principle of Google --- “Focus on the user and all else will follow” --- is such a tenet that warms my heart truly. Don’t mistake me for being too sensitive and emotional on such a thing. But what makes me feel this way is how it brings back the value of human interaction and unity against the concept of technology making men cold and impersonal in their daily dealings with others. The video she showed at the end of her talk was one example how technology united strangers in different countries to create one big masterpiece. Musicians all over the globe, without meeting personally, produced a song that symbolized how important the human touch is in a world of machinery.

P-ractically helpful. Collaboration is made more efficiently through the help of Google Docs as what TJ Resabal, Google Student Ambassador, said in his talk. Such an App is indeed very helpful to busy businessmen and perhaps to all workers this modern time.

All in all, the GdaysX is an event where one can really learn more about technology and how to use this in one’s work and daily activities. It was indeed HIP --- highly informative, inspiring and practically helpful.
