They say that behind every man’s failure or
success, there is a woman. In the case of President Ferdinand Marcos, the woman
was his wife, Mrs. Imelda Romualdez Marcos. I have not heard a lot about the
former first lady. To me, she was just someone who owned numerous pairs of
shoes and dressed traditionally. The documentary that we watched helped me to
discover who she was. And for me, she is one lady crazy about beauty.
It
was understandable as to why men fawned over her. She was young then. She was
beautiful. She sang well. She was fresh and she was the image of a true
Filipina. She knew about this as well. She knew the effect that she had on
people. After she married the ex-president and had a family with him, she got
more involved with politics. She did not stay at the Malacanang throughout her
husband’s reign. She went out and offered herself to the Filipino people. She
gained attention and I know that she wanted that attention. At times I think it
got to her head. And it messed up her head.
She
had her own philosophies that she explained clearly, yet they did not make any
sense to anyone, even the people whom she told her beliefs to before. She was
absolutely sure of all her greatness. Honestly, it did not make any sense to me
that she would want someone to kill her with a more beautiful weapon than a
bolo. She thought that she was the image of the poor people and that if she was
happy, then they would be happy. She did things that I disagreed upon but I think
that she really was not aware of the consequences of her actions then. For as
long as she did what she thought was right and she felt happy about it, it did
not matter what anyone thought and felt about it. For her, love makes a home
and beauty is love concretized.
